Currently there is a wcf service that hosts MMS code that MxConnect uses. The only reason for this is that not all of MMS code has been implemented by MxConnect. We'd like to implement whatever MxConnect needs inside MxConnect in order to remove the dependency on MMS through the legacy slice.
